For the month of April, a new interactive story map project by the CBC - called ”Hyperlocal” (#HyperlocalCBC) - features a mix of curated and reader submitted content all about the changing face of Canadian neighbourhoods.
East Vancouver stories included on the map so far include Bruce Wilson’s ode to Main and Broadway’s Lee Building, Varouj Gumuchian’s rant about the Main Street Poodle, Bryan Stokes’ memories of Mount Pleasant and Carol Wood’s story about my local grocery store, Como Market. The market, which was recently sold, has been a landmark in the Hastings-Sunrise community for 43 years.
As a former contributor to OpenFile Vancouver, I’m thrilled to see that CBC’s Hyperlocal project is filling some of the gaps in hyperlocal storytelling following OpenFile’s untimely demise - even if only for a short time….
